Mercy Ambulatory Care Center Will Hold Free Breast Cancer Screening on November 9
Knowledge is power, and the early detection of breast cancer through regular mammography screenings saves thousands of lives each year. That’s why Mercy Hospital has teamed up with the Cancer Services Program of Erie County to offer a free breast cancer screening for women without health insurance on Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the Mercy Ambulatory Care Center (MACC) located at 3669 Southwestern Boulevard in Orchard Park, NY.Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women ages 40-55. According to the National Cancer Institute, one in eight American women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime.
“The goal of screening exams for early breast cancer detection is to find cancers before they start to cause symptoms,” said Lisa Napier, Outreach Manager for the Cancer Services Program of Erie County. “An annual mammogram is still a woman’s best protection to safeguard her health and lack of health insurance should not stop women from getting the care they deserve.”
The free mammography screening takes about 20 minutes to complete and is open to women age 40 or older who do not have health insurance.
