(BUFFALO) February 16, 2012 — The John R. Oishei Foundation has awarded Crisis Services a grant of $60,000 to help to support the clinical AfterHours Program in 2012.
A New York State mandate in 2011 required that all mental health clinics have a licensed mental health professional available on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In response, Crisis Services created the AfterHours program and, with the seed support of the Oishei Foundation, 11 agencies (including 39 clinics in four counties) contracted with Crisis Services to provide coverage during a nine month demonstration project. The results of the demonstration project were excellent, resulting in more than 8,000 calls and diverting many clients from unnecessary emergency room visits.
The new grant by the Oishei Foundation recognizes the success the program has realized and will help defray the costs of continuing this project in 2012.
The Oishei Foundation appreciates the importance of organizations that provide invaluable “safety-net” services for our community and recognizes the critical role Crisis Services plays.
The John R. Oishei Foundation strives to be a catalyst for change to enhance economic vitality and the quality of life for the Buffalo Niagara region. The Foundation was established in 1940 by John R. Oishei, founder of Trico Products Corporation.
