ACSM, AFAA Grant CEU Approval to BWI’s Health Education Certificate Programs

BUFFALO, N.Y., February 18, 2012 – Fitness industry professionals have three new courses to consider when fulfilling their professional development responsibilities. BWI National Health Promotion Training Institute’s health education certification courses have been approved for continuing education units (CEUs) by two additional national fitness industry associations.

BWI has been named a continuing education provider by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). ACSM is the largest sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world, promoting and integrating scientific research, education and practical applications of sports medicine and exercise science to maintain and enhance physical performance, fitness, health and quality of life. AFAA is the world's largest fitness educator, delivering comprehensive cognitive and practical education for fitness professionals.

BWI’s three courses, which may be delivered through a web-based learning platform or via onsite education in the traditional classroom setting, include:

· BWI Health Promotion Coordinator Certification: four-hour course provides a foundation for successfully implementing and managing an employee wellness program; ideal for human resource professionals and wellness managers/team members

· BWI Personal Health Certification: 12 interactive, 30-minute modules address lifestyle and behavior changes necessary to leading a healthier life; ideal for human resource professionals and wellness managers/team members for professional growth, as well as for integrating with employee incentive-based wellness programs

· BWI "Be Fit Kids" Instructor Certification: four-hour course trains facilitators to lead, implement and instruct students from kindergarten through sixth grade in an outcome-based, results-oriented behavior modification program that empowers children and families to take responsibility for their health; ideal for educators and recreation staff members

“We are excited that ACSM and AFAA – two highly regarded national exercise and fitness associations – see the value in our certificate programs,” said Shawna Dosser, BWI president and CEO. “Our online courses, which are conveniently accessible to professionals anywhere at any time, are delivered through an online learning management system and include pre- and post-tests to measure knowledge improvement.”

The Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) has also approved BWI for CEUs, and through BWI’s affiliate Learning Partners, CEUS are available from the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), Board of Certification (BOC), NYS-PT Board and the National Board for the Certification of OTs. Pending approval are CEUs from the National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA) and National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
