Stay Cool at the Amherst Senior Center

Why Join the Center?

The Amherst Center for Senior Services wants to help area seniors beat the heat by enjoying the numerous activities and events at the Center, which is delightfully air conditioned.

To become a member, you must be age 55 or older or that person’s younger spouse. Applicants must apply in person. For Town of Amherst Residents, you may join the Senior Center for a one-time fee of $30. Two proofs of Amherst residency is required. Non-Amherst Residents may join the Senior Center for annual fee of $30 and must meet above age requirement.

An Amazing Facility
The Center provides perfect reading areas, great spots for doing crossword puzzles, lounge areas for listening to live music, a billiards room, card room, and great gift shop. The Center also has a lovely covered terrace and Audubon CafĂ©’.

Fun Clubs
Many different clubs are available to members to join including the Amherst Senior Singers, Camera, Travel, Knitting, Men’s Social, Movies and Dinner Club. Stop in the Center for more information on our clubs.

Enriching Courses
In addition, the Center offers over 70 enriching classes including Current Events, Yoga, Upholstery and so many more. The Fall 2012 Course Catalog is available on-line at the Town of Amherst website:www.amherst.ny.us, by clicking on the Senior Services Department and then selecting the Fall Course Catalog link in the center column. Classes run from August 27 through December 19, 2012. Members may also audit a class that they are interested in by receiving a guest pass at the Welcome Desk.

Nourishment & Hydration
The Center also offers members fresh coffee and pastries for sale on weekdays for a nominal fee from 9 am – 1 pm. A delicious lunch is served weekdays at 12 noon – 1 pm for $2.25 and reservations are required. Cold water dispensers are also found throughout the center for proper hydration during the high heat and humidity.

Special Events
The Center hosts many special events throughout the year including the Concert on the Terrace with Sentimental Journey on August 15 from 7 – 9 pm. Lights refreshments will be served. The Center’s monthly newsletter, The Network, contains a calendar of activities and is available at the Reception Desk.
